Long term oxygen therapy is prescribed mainly to patients who have been diagnosed with chronic pulmonary disease and have to receive supplemental oxygen for the rest of their lives. As oxygen is classified as a drug by the Federal Drug Administration it must be prescribed by a registered physician.
